About me
Sometimes you just know when a place has stolen your heart.
That happened to me on my very first trip to Morocco.
I had booked a private tour from Marrakech to the desert and back. Six days with just a driver, a vehicle, and my curiosity. I traveled solo, but I never felt alone. The warmth of the sun, the hospitality of the people, and the aromas of the tajines…
It captured me completely.
That trip eventually lasted a month. After the desert, I visited the coast for a few days and returned to Marrakech. I wanted to know if this was just a holiday crush or something deeper. So I came back for a second trip, a week in Marrakech, to see if it was truly a calling. The answer? A resounding yes. Shortly after, I moved from Portugal to Morocco, together with my little dog Louis.
Here, I live among the locals. I dine in small hidden spots tourists would never find, take cooking classes to uncover the secrets of tajines, and learn recipes straight from friends and neighbors. As a foodie, I couldn’t be happier.
With Food Stories Morocco, I want to help travelers taste and experience the real Morocco. No mass tourism, no standard stops, only hidden gems you can only reach with someone who knows the way. I work directly with local drivers, guides, and artisans — no middlemen. This ensures they are fairly compensated and allows us to build sustainable, respectful relationships based on trust.
Perhaps you trust me more because I’m Belgian. You know you can communicate in your own language, that I understand both the culture at home and here, and that I am always reachable during your trip. I know the stereotypes that sometimes exist, but I want to show you that real Moroccans, the people who live and breathe this country, are warm, friendly, and full of heart.
I am Virginie: talkative, cheerful, and a true lover of all things food.
And I invite you to discover the real Morocco with me.
